Default Repeated Limp Mode

so its been about a week now since i brought my car to the stealership for a cel and normal service. yea yea i know... but once i get my vag-com, i wont be needing them anymore

anyways i get a cel, turns out it was caused by more vac lines leaking so i'm really pissed about that... and i get the car back and i've been hitting limp mode nearly once a day. i don't know whats causing it, and since i dont have my vag-com yet, i cant run codes.

this seems to be stemming from a previous problem of a rough idle at startup with random revs. also while pulling through 2nd and 3rd gear id feel the car buck slightly around 3k rpms so figure perhaps its my maf and / or fouled plugs??? i bought some maf cleaner and i bought 4 ngk bkr 6e's. just need to borrow my friend's gapper in a day or so and see if that fixes the problem. anyone else have any ideas as to what this could be caused by?

We've seen O2 sensorsthrow CEL/MIL but what normally happens is something upstream causes the primary issue messing other things downstream such as O2 sensors and/or CAT problems.

I've seen the weirdest **** happen because of a bad MAF, didn't the dealership give you the codes?

I'm not an expert but I thought limp home mode is usally a tranny program and even a bad misfire will not normally trigger limp home mode.

If your car is a 1.8T you should be looking at the coil packs, we see these go bad failry regularly.

Just some thoughts.

nope limp mode limits the amount of boost to only a few psi, as a fail safe so the motor dosent take a crap

your rough idle is probably because of your vacuum leaks

If it is a vacuum leak you can detect it with a smoke machine or the poor man's trick of using carb cleaner. Smoke is better but carb cleaner will work.

vac leaks were fixed, so the rough idle is gone, still tho i get limp mode while pushing it when driving. i'm thinking fouled plugs and or dirty maf

ill have to check this later i guess

Limp is most likely caused by overboost. Could be that the DV has too stiff a spring. I don't have an aftermarket DV, but if the one you have comes with different springs, try one that is a ower spring rate.
