Well i have a 99 a4 2.8 and it has about 90k miles on it. I was wondering what i could do to clean up the engine a bit, i want to fix up everything possible. I just dont know what i can do, i was thinking things like spark plugs, filters, etc. I want to know absolutely everything that i should consider changing, please help me out and give me some ideas, and specifically what brands/types i should go with. Thanks guys
Oh and, what is the absolute best oil I can use for my audi?

not neccessarily required but it can be helpful as this is a known problem/issue, IIRC on the 2.8 more commonly.

 

Purchase a Haynes manual (15 bucks at pepboys) or the factory Bentley Manual (70 bucks) to help you.

Change spark plugs, air filter , check battery electrolyte level and top up with distilled water, Swap out power steering fluid with fresh Pentosin 11S, Drain and refill transmission and differential oils, Bleed brakes and put in fresh DOT4 brake fliud (dont use DOT 5), replace the cabin air filter,

Oil, most go with Mobil 1 and a Mann filter.

 

Audi suggests Castrol Syntec 5w40 for our cars, although there is clearly nothing wrong with mobil 1 -- and yes, OEM filters are best.

 

AAHH all this is getting to me head, anyway, what exactly is this bentley manual for, or haynes manual, will this tell me everything I need to know? I'm confused on why its Bentley manual and not Audi manual... [:-]

Get the Bentley manual and it's all nuts and bolts, along with some creative tool making or purchase. It's been 20 years since I monkeyed with a car and it's actually alot easier now then it was then. ECU controlled engines do most of the magic. I did all of the above, and doing more, on a '00 1.8T with 97k. When you do the timing belt, do yourself a favor and do ALL the belts. I found a power steering belt on the verge of breaking. The results have been very gratifying. Low-end power's back and gas mileage is way up.

Be prepared to spend a few $$ on parts, but you'll save a ton on labor. This week ... new struts, springs, tie rods and diverter valve (for turbos). Coming soon ... catback Borla exhaust. Last stop ... chip.
