I drove home a loaded Black 2005 A4 1.8T Quattro on Thursday. On Friday, I listed to the radio for the first time. It blows. I thought Bose would be an upgrade, but it's a downgrade for sure. The loudness boost when the music is low to way to high and they try to hard to make it sound good of every location at the expense of the front seat passengers. I told the dealer they had to change me out to a non-bose system and they are. I'm going to pick up a dark grey 2005 with the same config on Monday. It's been chillen at this local upscale mall where my 2 yr old son likes to go and play at the Apple Store. Funny thing is that he always ran up to this car and said, "Daddy's Car". I guess he was right.

I now have a 2000 A4 to sell. I got a deal that they would fix everything wrong on it at a discounted rate and give me a good bill of health document so I can sell it faster. I'm going to put it on Ebay. What do you all think it's worth?

I owe about $7 and just sunk $1k at the dealer for a bunch of new parts. I'd like to get at least 10.9K since it's in great condition. It's also got high end MB Quarts installed with the stock head unit.

 

You do know you have to adjust the bose system for better quality don't you?

 

I played with the base, mid, and trebble settings. No luck. I tried to access the hidden EQ, but it was defeated by Bose. Trust me, it sucked bad. I'm a bit of an audio snob, but even my wife said it was bad. Her Lexus has a stock system that blows the Bose away!

Audi Symphony won't be any better, its actually **** sound, I ripped mine out a month after we bought the car and put in all JL equipment with a Pioneer head unit.

 

Your Bose quote is hilarious. My Dad works in the industry has met Dr. Bose a couple of times and asked me to foward some comments from other Audi users. I sent Bose an email directly and my Dad said they would discard it once they saw my last name.

How could any company put out such a crappy audio system that you have to spend $1k on.

The standard system does sound a little better in 2005. On my 2000 A4, is was terrible. I replaced all of the speakers on my A4 and added 2 10" subs. I was hoping that I wouldn't have to do the much work to this one. My 2000 A4 rocks to say the least. My Dad used his audio testing equipment to tune it

Yeah the Bose is not the best, but it really is one of the better oem offering of any manufacturer. You will now have Nokia speakers in your new car, and it will suck even more. But the audio in your car will be easier to modify/upgrade if you do not have the bose. I just finished ripping all the Bose out of my 2000 and added all new gear.

 

Actually, I think it sounds more natural. I plan to replace it anyway, excluding the head unit which isn't so bad. I had a 2004 rental and my 2005 has a totally different unit. It's an in dash 6 changer. It sounds a lot better than the 2004 I was driving last night.

Does anyone know how to access the hidden EQ on this model? Holding 5 down and turning it back on no longer works.

I'm going to buy an Audi book which details the audio system before I start to tinker with it. Anyone know where I can buy one on-line?

i dont know whats up with your system but mine sounds great! I like to listen to hip hop and rap mostly and everything sounds great. Impressive bass for a stock system and i dont think i would change a thing. 2005 A4 S.E.
