Default REVO Impressions

I am using the pre-production beta version on my 2001 AWM engine. It was installed yesterday and I have about 3 hours running time and a little over 100 miles on the software.

Well, the software is certainly stronger than stock on the mid-range and upper rpms, much like the torque and hp curves that REVO has on their site for the 150hp version (see below). Also, the power delivery seems much smoother than stock. I am taking about a 10% hit on gas mileage, though, and I'm trying to drive it exactly the same as before. Fuel trims are .8% idle (short term) and -1.9% partial throttle (long term), so nothing out of the ordinary. I haven't done any boost readings yet, but I did up the boost to 4-2 (high boost 2) with my SPS3.

One thing I am a little concerned about is the readiness codes. I put about 100 miles on the car (only four start/stops), but the secondary air injection and the catalytic converter were NOT READY. I know with my GTI REVO code that the readiness codes seem almost hard-coded as ready, and that is with a GHL turbo-back. That may be something REVO needs to look into for the Audi code. I don't know if the installer cleared fault codes as part of the REVO programming, which may be the cause of the two items not being ready, but before loading the code ALL my readiness codes had been READY.

Overall, it's much better than stock. Not as strong as my GTI (but that's probably typical and due in part to Quattro), but still very nice. Drivability is smooth like stock, only stronger. I didn't get a chance to open things up due to traffic, but will keep you informed. Also, I need to give things a couple of days to settle down (adapt). I just picked the car up yesterday and it has to adjust to my driving style, as well.

My next steps (probably this weekend) will be to stick an N75H valve and make sure the DV is at least a 710N. I could put the Forge P007 on, but it's a real pain to get to to service. I may also temporarily hook up a boost gauge to see what's going on.

Update: Gas mileage is now BETTER than before chipping! (See below.)

UPDATE:

Now that the car has had a couple of days to adjust to the new software, it is MUCH stronger and gas mileage has IMPROVED over what it was before chipping. Before the software load, I was getting 23.2 mpg; today when I filled up I got an even 25 mpg! Now, that might be because when I took delivery of the car the dealer filled the tank and I doubt they used premium. I have put nearly a full tank of 93 octane through and the car is running like it should. (I fill up whenever I get below 3/4 tank since gas prices are going up like crazy.)

I also installed a N75H valve and swapped out the stock DV (710) for a 710N. Both, I'm sure are helping performance. I have not put the VAG-COM back on yet to check readiness codes.

I don't know if I agree to your "much better" after the revo chip because I had the trial version on my B6 and I don't feel the different that Revo was showing on their website. The pull is just a little bit better and you can hear the turbo a little bit louder. I'm not sure if that's b/c I only had the trial version on for about 1 hr b/c I reset it back to original after not feeling that power. That's why I didn't end up getting it chip. But if it got a lot better for you after driving for a while, maybe I should try it again, please let me know your suggestion, thanks!

It's definitely gotten stronger. I did swap out the DV for a 710N and the N75C for an N75H. However, I've turned the boost down and backed out a little timing to settings that I use for my GTI, namely timing 3 and high boost 2. I found that's where the car felt the stongest. You can overdo it with timing and boost and end up losing power.

TyrolSport just announced their have a SMIC upgrade. I have it for my GTI and it made a big difference on hot days. They haven't posted pricing yet, but I'm definitely gonna be watching. Here are some pics.
