ROSS TECH VAG COM
on the ross tech website, which one do I order? the one that costs $99? or am I confused? is this shareware? what laptop specifications do I need in order to run this? TIA!
If you buy the cable from Ross-Tech you don't need to buy a software license. There is a software key built into the cable that turns the shareware version into a full licensed version. If you buy an Ebay knock off cable you will need to pay the $100 for a licensed software copy. You buy and old Ross-Tech cable from Ebay, you will won't to make sure that the cable has the software key built in (it called a dongle); because the old cables didn't have them. I think Ross-Tech started putting the dongles in about 1.5 to 2 years ago.
Any old laptop will run the program. I use a laptop that is about 8 years old and it works fine.

You can download the shareware version right off the Ross Tech site, that's what I did. The cable may come with a copy but I don't know for sure. I have cheap Ebay cable that I use for reading and clearing codes. I just borrow dan's Ross-Tech cable when I need to do logging and other stuff.
