SAD BUT HAPPY.....TEST PIPE, REVO, DVSFiT

Peak HP, meaning the Highest rating, at the top of the HP curve, around 5500rpm.
Peak HP, meaning the Highest rating, at the top of the HP curve, around 5500rpm.
So where did your 5HP number come from?
Even with just a stock exhaust, it's showing a gain of 10HP/10TQ at the wheels.
What aftermarket exhausts show matching gains at the wheels?
I've never seen more than an 8HP increase, personally..and I believe that was CHP.
..
The 5hp came from the graph of 5400rpm. If you look at that graph, at the bottom it says something like 190 peak for with thest pipe, 185 peak stock. Its at the bottom middle of the graph where they show you what the color coding stands for.
Its pretty common knowledge about the exhaust.
Borla claims 5-10% increase at the crank, milltek claims 8-10% increase at the crank. Of course it all depends on the vehicle, the tuning, the size of the turbo, etc.
I am not arguing that a test pipe produces results.
I am just stating the an exhaust produces results as well. roughly 5hp or more at the wheels, depending on your particular car, setup, mods, etc.
So, the best thing to do, is get a testpipe, and an aftermarket exhaust. Especially if you run a big turbo, but you will still get gains from both components with or without a big turbo.
The only concern about the testpipe is emissions, if you have to worry about that.
Evoic, are you planning to stay with stock exhaust for good, or are you planning to do exhaust later? If so, why?

But realistically, the power drop is only for 100RPM's and before and after that (at 4400 & 4600RPMS) the gains are at 10HP and 10+TQ.

Sort of.
The best thing to do money-wise is just the test-pipe with the stock exhaust if you have a K03.
The difference between a $150-$200 test pipe vs a $600-$1,100 exhaust is so minor that in my opinion it is nowhere close to being justifiable.
Now.......If you go Big Turbo, THENNNNN I would definitely say that you should improve your gains noticeably by adding an aftermarket exhaust.

I'm not going up to the K04 unless I buy the car at the end of the lease.
If I do buy the car and add the big turbo - then I'll be out of things to mod which will FORCE me to add the exhaust in order to wrestle with the mod-demons.
Well I stand corrected... I honestly never did enough research on test pipes to know of the gains even with stock exhaust, or act like an expert. I am VERY impressed by reading ecodetuning's explanation. Even for the B5 it states 40 tq at the wheels with 10-15 hp increase with stock exhuast alone. I will deffinately ask for one for xmas from the wifey.
Yeah, I never said it was the best bang for the buck.
But, if you were to put on an exhaust right now, you would gain probably 5hp at the wheels in addition to whatever you have now.
Not the best bang for the $$, not very much HP, bust most do it for the slight gain, the sound, and the look of it as well.
And you're right, if you go BT, the exhaust becomes a need rather than a want.

And Im not afraid to admit I've learned something new today, I mean heck, thats why I am here all the time anyway, to expand my audi knowledge, so a good discussion like this one never hurts!
Cheers to all! I am on my way out the door to a cold beer, hoefully something you cant see through!
Have your wifey call my wifey and tell her what i want.. Ill do the same with your wifey.. That way we can act like its a surprise and give our wives all the credit which = incredible Xmas sex for everyone.[&:]
For those of you that cant understand my theory, no I am not talking about swinging.

I think its just a [sm=goodidea.gif] from the gains from only the test pipe (on top of the Revo software), plus like you said, you will get a nice low toned sound.
I think I have to give myself a pat on the back for starting a good thread, [8D], jk.

They sure stress this on their site though:
Manufactured from all stainless steel including the flanges and polished to a mirror shine this test pipe has proven a solid 15HP gain on the MAHA Dynometer. The factory cat is extremely restrictive by just placing this bolt on pipe inline with you factory or aftermarket exhaust you can unleash the hidden potential of your 1.8T motor for OFF ROAD USE ONLY.
This unit will work on all after market or OEM exhaust systems that utilize the factory flange and adaptor locations. Package includes a new OEM down pipe gasket as well as new hardware.
Note.
This product is intended for OFF ROAD USE ONLY use of this product upon public highways is prohibited.
