Default Scratches near the gear shifter.

Hi,
I got a used A4 recently and the chrome like plastic around the gear shifter has a lot of scratches on it, it makes the car look much worse that it is. I checked a lot of used A4s before getting mine and all of them had the scratches. Did anybody buff these out successfully? What kind of buffing wheels were used? Any buffing compound used? I'm assuming that this is common problem with A4s because I've seen the same on so many used A4s. Please share your secrets. Thanks

My A4 has many scratches in that chrome piece as well. When I get tired of looking at it, I'll just take it to the dealer and have them order me a replacement piece. I've never heard of anyone trying to buff the scratches out of that piece.

try inquiring about it with shokan.com...I'm sure it's MUCH cheaper getting a used part from there than goin to the stealership for basically the same thing. I emailed them a picture of this piece I needed from the interior before and they gave me a price shipped in good condition... they also warrantee their parts so ask about that too.

Those things are always scratched. Buffing is not going to help. I took mine off, and media blasted it so it has a matte finish, not a shiny finish. It looks good.

How do you take them off? Mine looks terrible. What a terrible idea.

You'd expect something more durable from Audi I like the idea of a matte finish, Its nice to know somebody who was dedicated to the looks of his/her audi tried buffing in vain. Perhaps the matte finish will go well with the aluminium trim on the inside. Thank you all for great ideas.
