Default secondary air flow

Hi,

I get this high pitched squeel when i start the car on a cold engine for about a minute or so. once the RPM dips to 800, the squeel goes away. after searching around here, and looking up CEL code P0411, it sounds like it's got something to do with the secondary air flow pump.
i have a couple of questions:
1. given the noise and the CEL, do you think it's the pump itself or could it be that the hoses connecting the pump have cracked?
2. Is the pump accessible from the top or under the car. i tried looking for it without removing any components but couldn't find it. do i have to remove anything to get to this sucker?

thanks.

Secondary air pump is dead/dying. That is the sound. Just replaced mine.
Pump is directly under the passenger side headlight. All I had to remove was the belly pan. It's a tight squeeze, but it's doable.

Be careful removing it and disconnecting the hoses - don't pull too hard the wrong way you you can break the hoses. It's held on to a metal bracket by 3 bolts.

the 2nd air flow pump should be covered under the emissions warranty (for 7years, 70k) so i took the car to the dealer and he said that the pump is fine. the hose connecting the pump is cracked. so i told him to pack it up 'cuz he wanted to charge me like $300 bucks to just replace the plastic hose.
i brought the car home and after i took the belly cover off, sure enough i found that the plastic hose that goes from the pump to the combi-valve was broken.

should i check with another dealership to make sure that the pump isn't busted. my car's got 69900 miles right now. i don't want it to go over 70k and out of warranty only find out that the pump was indeed broken. i hear the pump goes for quite a bit of $$.

Its hard to tell whether the pump is good without the system being intact. However the cracked line will cause the pump to sound very loud. Sometimes refered to as a jet engine like sound. Most likey the pump is still fine and the line just needs to be replaced.
