Default Should I do anything else to my car while it's in for head gasket?

Now that I know my head gasket it bad between Cyl 2 & 3, should I do anything else to it while it's in the shop?

I planned on doing timing belt(water pump, belts, tensioner) and that was about it. But, now that I think about it, I might do more.

Someone suggested finding out how much P & P is going to be. I'll be checking into it. I'm thinking about getting a snub mount, Forge DV, and debating on lightweight pulley.

Is the pulley worth it? And should I even really think about anything else. I don't have that much money to put into the car now that I have to spend $1600 on head gasket and timing kit.

I would put a diverter valve on like you said but I wouldn't have the dealer do it. It is very simple to do yourself and you will save on labor that way.

Yeah, they plan on milling the head. That's why it's going to the machine shop. It's only at a local shop, so I doubt they'd charge me much in labor since it'll be right there anyway. The guys at the shop are pretty cool.

Car is a B6 1.8T. I think the car may have gotten a little warm one day with there was no coolant in it due to a coolant leak. I'm guessing that may have caused it. I fixed the leak and then soon after that, it started misfiring. They did a leakdown on it and when they put air into Cyl 2 it came right back out Cyl 3. So it looks like it's just bad between those two Cylinders. I could smell a sweet smell from burning coolant, but figured it was just leftover coolant from the leak it had that I fixed. Plus, the plugs in 2 & 3 had a little bit of white deposits on them like you'd get from coolant.

I would not feel comfortable with a local shop working on my Audi.. At least on a job like this.. Taking appart all that stuff to get to the head.. YIKES! It will probably be a learning experience for them. A lot of local places wont agree to do some work on Audi's. I hope its a good experience for ya. $1600 isnt all that bad of a price for that and the timing belt kit. Too bad your not getting any power gains for all that money.

If you mill the head you'll increase your compression

haha... Thats like saying if you lose 3lbs youll get better gas mileage. Its not gunna make a noticeable or possibly even measurable difference, but the theory is correct

I'm not having the head milled for performance though. It's to make sure that any imperfections that may have caused the head gasket to start leaking are taken care of.

The shop is local, but they're an all EURO car shop. http://www.eurotechofholland.com/

Very reputable in the area.

That's why I posted this is to see if a P & P, DV, and lightweight pulley would be worth the extra bucks.
