Should I drive on bad bearings?
Just bought a 98 1.8T Quattro A4 with 60k on it from a dealer. Problem is there is a whirring noise from the rear when I get above 20mph per hour. Brought it to a midas and he said it was more than likely the wheel bearings. Called the dealer back and asked him to take care of it. He said he will... next week. What I want to know is, is it safe to drive it for the next few days? The noise is audible with the radio off and is pretty consistent. Thanks for your advice in advance!
Thanks for the advice. And the forums look great. I moved to the US from Ireland and I drove the 1.8 A3 over there. Glad to see they are bringing the A3 out here. Its a neat little car that handles great.

I had bearing on my A4... Fixed it at local dealer for not a lot...
I fixed my bearing for about 35$ and a few beers! [8D]
But if the dealer is going to take care of it let them. I drove on a bad bearing for a while.. and let me tell you it gets progressivley more annoying!

It will take a while for the bearing to completely **** up. BUT, best gwet it seen to straight away. I was on mine for a week before it went in. No problems, just that bloody irritatinjg drone!
