What model Civic? Either way, TAKE IT FOR $500! If not, tell her to sell it to me.
Civic would be a great first car man, they're cheap, easy to fix, and easy to work on. It's your first car, chances are, you're going to screw it up somehow, so do you really want the car that you learn on, to be a nice Audi? I'd honestly say get the Civic, drive that for a few months until you get your feet wet, and keep saving for a nice car. The worst thing you can do, is try to rush into getting a nice car... TRUST ME on this one man, you don't even want to hear my story.

Civic. You'll do some stupid stuff in it. Trust me, I did.
You don't want to ruin a nice car with a bonehead maneuver caused by inexperience.
Besides, Civics aren't THAT bad, especially as a first car. I had an 87 CRX as a first car when I was 17ish. Only 75 horsepower, but anyone who drove it agreed, it's a blast.

I'd go with the civ and save. I had a 97 EX and it was a great car. It was quick and really easy to work on. You'll love it. Then when the time is right and you have the money get the Audi.
