The B8 A4 2.0T is notorious for ringland issues, causing oil consumption and ultimately if not repaired, engine failure. This particular car had it performed under warranty (which many of them do).

In general, a car having it's engine removed by a trained/factory mechanic is not an issue. Sometimes the repair is less costly and less time consuming if the engine is removed, rather than leaving it in the car. The nature of removing an engine does not endanger any car, rather, it is the reason that is important. This is a known, factory issue, not neglect or abusive treatment.

So to answer your question, yes and no. Yes because of the possibility of the same issue reoccurring and no because removing an engine is in principle no different than removing any other part of the car.

Okay. Ill have to think on this. That is a lot of money to drop on a car with that many unknowns.

Well, that would be the case on any 2008+ A4 car, and as long as you have a warranty the only issue would be downtime. This one appears to be Audi CPO, which would cover it should the issue come up again. I haven't heard of the engine continuing to have ringland issues once the repair has been completed, but that doesn't mean it isn't possible.

I would read this thread:
