sounds like a ball joint, better off changing the whole control arm they are not bad just did mine

 

thanks for the responses....appears to be my lower control arms...nearest the engine...sprayed with a lil WD40..and the squeak went away....not a big deal at all...will replace this weekend...

 

Apparently this is a known fault with Audi A4 1996+ Models.

The will do you a free check and I am told fix it for free if the mileage is less than 130 and has a FSH.

Give your local dealer a ring.

it has 91k on it.......i'll prolly end up fixing it myself...not to hard to replace them...30 bucks for the bushing at kragen...

 

only the two front lowers are covered by the service action...i had 138k when i had mine done

sorry to bring this up from the dead, but i have a problem with the clunk and need my UPPER front L&R ball joints fixed so i can get an alignment.

is this covered under the service action or just the lowers?
wheres a cheap place for picking up these oem parts?

 

Just the lowers are covered. I purchased my complete set from getcoolparts.com, a site sponsor. They also sell them individually.

 

I just had my front right ball joint replaced this past weekend...i noticed a pretty annoying sounds, like something was dry or rubbing when turning the wheel at slow speeds...i also took off the wheel and found nothing wrong...i originally thought it eas either bad bushings or the control arm, then went and got it checked out and sure enough...ball joint...id say im about 95% positive thats what the problem is...same thing happened to me
