Silent Exhaust
So if you want big upgrades in power due to increased airflow, you have to increase the size of both the downpipes AND the exhaust.
Another thing you should keep in mind when buying exhaust or having a custom job installed: make sure all the pipes are Mandrel bent. If they are bent with a regular pipe bender, there will be an indent at the corners, thus restricting airflow. For instance, if you took a three inch pipe and did traditional bending, it's only as good about a two and half inch pipe. The Mandrel bender shapes the pipe in such a way that there is no indent, and hence, no restriction!!

I disagree. I think the APR is definitely loud.

Milltek, APR and supersprint makes a near stock sounding exhaust.

I could be wrong, I was just going by what others have said in the past.
It came down to 3 options: Milltek, Neuspeed and a custom system (from the best exhaust speed shop in the area). The Milltek was $875, the Nuespeed was $600 and the custom was $350. After deciding against a high-flow cat (too much $ at $600), I went with the custom setup. 2 1/2" downpipe, resonator back to dual tip 3" chrome tips (mandrel bends throughout). It looks subdued, but definitely not stock. It passed the sound test from my wife, which was important (had to sell a Mustang with 3" header-back because it was too loud for her). I noticed a modest performance gain without too much increase in sound.
Thanks for all the replies. As a recent A4/turbo owner, I've picked up a lot of useful info.
