Default snow problem

Hey, what's up! i'm a proud owner of a 00 audi a4 1.8 t quattro, sport suspension and it's a manual. i got an apr chip in it and it has awesome power. i have two problems with it though. first of all, the apr chip that i got installed requires a new diverter valve, so i went down to the audi dealership here in layton, ut, and i bought a 710N diverter valve, got it put in by some vw/audi specialized shop and it feels the same, i still feel little hesitation when i punch it, it feels like the old diverter valve. i was on a forum once and i read that the 710N would be able to handle the new power from the chip, but i guess it doesnt or that shop screw me over. what do you guys think? do any of you have the 710N and the apr chip, and how does yours feel? do you experience any power loss when you accelerate? could it be the turbo? i have 81k on the car, maybe the turbo's going out.

my other problem is with the quattro. one of the reasons i bought this car is because it is all wheel drive, and it snows here in utah (i'm not really into the state, i'm just stationed here, air force). whenever i drive in snow, the car swerves, i need to drive really slow, slower than the other cars on the road that dont have all wheel drive, nor snow tires. i have brand new all seasons, but they dont cause the swerving, the car does it on its own. i drove my friend's passat in the snow (front wheel drive), he has all seasons too, but his is more stable. it goes straight, it does't swerve like mine. i was thinking to take to a shop, maybe i need an alignment, but i wanted to get your opinions first, maybe this might have happened to one of you in the past. any comments, hints, advices would be greatly appreciated. whenever i had a post you helped me a lot, and reading this forum helped me decide to get an audi, the driving experience in this car is unmatched, and i've driven quite a few cars (one of my hobbies is to go to dealers and pretend i'm buying a car and just test driving them). thanks

you'll only feel a difference with the new dv if your old dv was busted. if you just recently got chipped, your old dv was probably still ok. as far as your traction problems, i don't know what it could be..tires are a huge factor, but you said you just got new ones..maybe an alignment issue, does it feel ok on dry roads?

yeah, it felt like my old dv was busted, i mean it felt like the car hesitated when i would accelerate. i put in the new one, and at first it felt okay, but after a week it felt like it went bad, i'm experiencing the same lagging as with my old dv.

on dry pavement the car feels okay, even in rain, but in the snow it starts swerving. i'm really frustrated about this cuz' it's a freaking quattro, i'm supposed to be passing trucks and suv's in the snow. any comments are welcome.

check the snow rating for your tires on www.tirerack.com ...sorry i can't offer you more help than that...also, if you really think your 710N is bad, you can try something like a forged 007.

Well with AWD you're still going to find that your tires break loose....but its waaayyy easier to control and recover.

does the swerving thing happen when your accelerating or just steady, or both? when you add power to a car like the apr chip, your car will become much less snow worthy. you have more power to spin ur wheels therefore they slip out easier, my a4 when i had a setup like urs(apr chip, new dv, and exhaust) my car became alot worse in the snow, but really only when i was on it, if you relax with the gas pedal taking off or just accelerating does it still happen?

A toasted diverter valve shouldn't cause hesitation... it would cause low boost. By hesitation, do you mean the car stutters? Or do you just mean it doesn't have any power, and then the power comes on strong? Chipped cars are sort of like that... sudden power. Well, pretty much all turbo'd cars are like that... unless you're running the stock 150 hp :P

Maybe look into spark plugs and a fuel system treatment.

I dont know about you guys but my FWD is cool in the snow when I lower the tyre presure to 30-32PSi all around, feels short of a quatro.
just when you start going try not to press alot. slitly ingage gear in the idle and slightly press the pedal. also check the tyre pressure might be to high, in deep snow lower it to like 20-25 psi then you will have traction. :-)

i think he means worsened throttle response, like his dv isnt clearing out the pressure so its not spooling as fast, right?

what the hell? Im not affraid to admit as a fwd driver that you cannot simulate or come "short" of quattro by reducing the psi in your tires. Yes fwd is alright in the snow, but it isnt compareable in any way to quattro. And.. Dont take your tire psi to 20-25 because you will damage your sidewalls, and radial belts, especially if the temp outside is cold enough to snow. I agree that lower psi may give better traction, but it doesnt mean its a good idea or that it performs anything like quattro. IF you must, dont go below 27 or so psi.
