So in all honesty, how good is Quattro in snow?
Oh man quattro in the snow is SEX.... well close lol but its friggin great, even with summer tires my car would go anywhere.... but you must know how to handle it to be good in the snow... it takes a lil bit to get used to and dont get over confident but your car will take you damn near anywhere
my performance tires on my car are wearing out and i need to get new tires for the winter cause im hitting the mountains alot, what kind of tire should i get? all seasons? all season performance? stick with the performance? i will problably read up about this in consumer reports and what not but im interested in your guys experience, i dont mean to high jack the thread so i had my a4 out on a huge parking lot and i took the quattro through it paces, works great
I think they do very well in minimal 'street snow'. I have had my car in 2' of snow on the un-plowed freeway at 45-50mph and it seemed to handle very well. Now I have also had mine in 8' of powder on an un-paved street and in pulled fine but the grill gets so packed it will begin to run hot.
1-3' all day long
5-6' sucks but can be done at low speed
7-8' don't loose momentum and if you do back up 10 feet and try again a lil faster
My GSX likes to bring the assend around alot more than the audi But then again my scout has both of them beat.....

how good is quattro?
lets just say that everyone who doesnt have quattro would never smile and be looking forward to the first snow of the year. youll never see them wishing for huge snowstorms.

I have never used this UR in the snow, but I did drive my 84' in the snow back in 93-95. I had four snows on it and worked at a ski mountain in CA doing night time snowmaking. We used to have contests before we groomed the lower part of the mountain as to who could get the farthest up and my UR won almost every time. I was up against tons of Toyota pickups, jeeps, you name it... I also drove to work on days when well over a foot had fallen/still falling and made it no problem. Yes, it will overheat when it gets clogged up though....I locked up the diff once when I was stuck on a birm...
short and sweet, I work for Subaru now (used to work for Audi) and although the Suby system is just fine and you wont get stuck, the quattro system is more refined and smoother...I know I could throw on a set of snows, raise the ride height and get through anythin in my old car....

quattro can transfer up to like...i forget the percent...but over half ur power to one wheel at a time. It just doesn't transfer front and back, it transfers to all four corners.
