Default So not to make a blanket statement, but...

I keep looking at audi's as I have wanted an A4 quattro for pretty much ever. All the people I keep talking to say, oh well in the end the maintenance is gonna cost WAY more, and you will have a lot more problems with an audi, etc. I know this is an audi site, but you all seem pretty logical, etc. I know you guys love ur audis but do you think they require more maintenance down the road (and more expensive at that?)

Thanks guys, I know it may be a dumb question but enoug people have brought it up that I thought I should ask.

Can you do the maintenance labor yourself? if not, yeah it'll probably cost you more than say a honda or toyota. But if you can do it yourself or buy one that has warranty you should be ok.

If you cant buy something relatively new, make sure the previous owner[s] maintained the car well or you will run into alot of issues.

if you treat it good, it will treat you good back. preventative maintenance is the key.

Parts are a little more expensive in some cases but last longer. Most people who think they got jacked bought a car with 120K miles that never got maintained and all the sudden sensors were burning up and the CEL was on non stop.

I have had my A6 for 2 1/2 years and have only put a few hundred dollars worth of parts on it. In price comparison to my Ford or my Mitsubishi, the water pump was 20 bucks more, the timing belt was 50 more (the ford had a set of timing gears), and the plug wires were the only thing that really blew me way at 130+ dollars.

Of course the original plug wires lasted 162K miles.

But I did all the work myself so it was cheap labor. I have never heard of an Audi being less reliable, just more expensive to fix.

well, I am looking at 06 used lease turn ins. They are 06s with around 4k or so miles, still have factory warranty and a few years of free maintenance left. I am a 3k mile oil change, 7500 tire rotation, 30k furl filter, etc, kind of guy. Follow the maintanence books to the T. I can deal with slightly marginally more expensive, they are more expensive cars so I expect the parts to be more, kind of obvious to me...you guys think I will be cool? Buying from a dealership (an audi dealership, and one of 3 I narrowed down)

A car with 4000 miles on it, I think you will be fine. My car had its first major problem (which would have cost its owner 20 bucks if he didn't drive it) at 120K when the power steering hose blew and it needed a new power steering pump. It was the last in a string of maintenance issues like worn belts and hoses. He traded it in because it needed so much maintenance.

And proper maintenance will keep you from having your car in the shop when you want to be driving it too. Just don't do anything lame like skimping on the fuel grade or oil viscosity. Problems occur when you gunk up your oil and let your engine knock on cheap gas.

after driving a WRX for 2 years, I am very familiar with good gas and bad gas, only chevron now, that's IT! I don't care if I have to drive further for it, LOL. And with this car synthetic will be inlcuded in the free maintenance and when it's not any more, then I will still put in synth.

if it's certified pre-owned, you get an extra 2 years warranty/ 50k miles warranty. My car is warrantied until 2011 or 100k miles.

So like me, you shouldnt have to worry about maintenance items at all other than the various filters that most **** people replace more than the free maintenance allows.

if the warranty is extended is the free mainenance extended as well? It is certified pre-owned.
