sound system ?'s
hello i have an a4 and i wanted to get a little thump in the trunk if you know what i mean. i looked at a few places and they They suggest that I get 2 subs and a 400 watt amp. They said the audi has a very good sound dampening system and I would need the 400 watt amp to hear anything. I was wondering if you guys thought this was not necessary or if I should go higher. Also Im not to knowledgeable when it comes to what is good in the sound system world so if you guys could leave some good links or tell me what you have in your car I would appreciate it thanks.

run through the hood release cable...use a crapload of silicone to seal it. i have 300 watts running to 2 10" Mach 5 Subs. Sounds great ported and only cost me like 250 for the entire set up.
I have a sealed 12" in the car powered by a 300w rms amp. Sounds decent.
Run power wire through the fire as stated above, and then down the drivers side of the car. It's actually really easy to just tuck it under the plastic. Easiest sub install I've ever done, b/c you don't even need to pull up the plastic molding. there is enough room to slip it under (using 8 gauge wire).
If your rear speakers are blown (the mid-bass ones on the shelf), just pull them out. It'll allow ample air to flow from the truck to the cabin if you want more boom, although it's not necessary. Tap the built in amp (if you have bose) for your remote wire. I got my sound signal off one of the wires from the removed rear-shelf speakers, although You can rig up an RCA to tap the pre-amp input from the deck, although I never figured out which colors were which, and gave up on that part of the install. Sounds fine with the hi/low conversion.
You don't neccessarilly need two subs to have your car boom like an ******* from 2 blocks away. It all depends on what kind of woofer you buy. You'll want high efficiency and high SPL if you want boom. Just keep an eye on the specs. For the most part, for good sound quality you're gonna have to spend more than $100 per woofer.
In terms of what brands and such for decent (you're not gonna win any competitions with this) sound quality and spl, I used to have an Infinity Kappa Perfect 12" powered by a 400w rockford fosgate amp. I loved that setup. Great sound quality, not so much spl, but for the definition in the bass, it was worth it. I currently have a kicker VR setup, which is nice, but I miss the clarity of the kappa perfect.
For amps, for decent sound, expect to pay a dollar/watt rms.
