Default Spiralling out of control

Hi All, need a bit of advice with a repair issue on my A4 Cab (05 plates)
that is spiralling out of control.

Here's the short of it - had my keys stolen, dropped the car in to get
the locks replaced/new keyset.

New lockset ordered. Now they are fitting it, I am being told that
unfortunately due to the type of immobliser in the new A4 Cab
model (mine was built in Apr 05), the dash display (and I think
the immobiliser) needs to be replaced with the lockset for
the system to be brought up and work.

So, what was a £700 job to replace the lockset, has now
spiralled out of control to nearly £2300.

Has anyone else experienced this? Does this seem right?
Advice needed .. thanks in advance...

Paul.

Hmm that doesn't seem right. I've had my keys replaced and they just recoded the immobilizer on the keys to match my cluster.

Thanks - Just wondering - how recent is your model - I was told that this is
something that is now standard on all new models?

Jestnomen's A4 is 2005.5... And £2,300 does seem quite steep.

Thanks for the advice

yeh I agree - if they were just replacing my keys, this would be
completely outrageous, but the issue is rather that my keys were
stolen so I was told that needed to get a complete new lockset.

I didn't want the thieves coming back to steal my car with
the old keys.

So, I suppose the two key questions are:

1. Is it possible to get replacement keys that don't match the
old without a new lock set

2. When the lock set is replaced, does the Dashboard display
and immobiliser have to be replaced?

Right now, I'm told No to 1, and Yes to 2, hence the unbelievable
price. And honestly, I'm just outraged at having to do this
as it seems completely unbelievable!

?

Paul.

unfortunately its all true they do have to replace many things because of coding alarm/immobiliser/door locks and on some cars the ECU "all because of a stolen key with remote" but not £2,300 that's over the top, cheaper to buy a car from the breakers yard and take the bits off and fit your self I would have thought,
