neuspeed race springs are more aggressive than h&r's.... so i would recommend the neuspeed's.... ive had them on two audi's now paired up with bilstein sport shocks and its pretty much amazing.

Sigh at bad information.... Onepoint8t is having to set to many of you straight.

Why in the hell would you blow out your shocks so you can have your car dropped "immediatly" wait and do it all at once correct. One you blow your shocks out earlier than you "wanted" to your gonna regret this all, especially if you have no money to get it fixed. I reccommend following someone with a more realistic sense on what the outcome is to that dumb idea. Just wait, do it right.. Dont make a mistake.

Well I'm running H&R Race springs on my 1.8TQ sport shocks and they work great for the last 10 months. I also ran these on my 2.8SC Q none sport shocks and it also ran well with only a little bouncing on soft dips in the round but they worked great on the track and they where on the car for 2 years and still are and the shocks where the original 112k items.

I will say that this set-up works better on sport shocks and I would imagine even better with up rated shocks but for a cheap fix go for it.

Oh and it only took me 1.5 hrs to do but then I did have a friends work shop and air gun to do the work

No that was my 2.8SC Q on none sport shocks, I'm currentley on sport shock with H&R race spring for 10 months with my 1.8TQ. Have to add I used a lift which make a world of difference and it was my first time and yes air tools make a world of difference.

No ive been searching all night becuase if what he says is true (at least for the majority) i would throw some lowering springs on my stock shocks in a heartbeat. I came accross at least 6 threads of people speaking from personal experience about their stock shocks getting blown out within a year of putting lowering springs on ranging from 1.5"-2.5" drops. I dont have links to provide, but just search on "lowering springs" or "race springs" and youll come accross em. Im sure how long they last depends on your driving habits and quality of roads you drive on... So depending on who you are and where you live proabably has a lot to do with it. I used to belong to a nissan forums group and people were always complaining about blowing up their stock shocks with lowering springs within 6 months. I think for the majority its just a ticking timebomb, for others it is luck?

Being a bit of a suspension guy, I find it hard to believe that a factory shock (which hasa large range of travel) will blow out sooner due to the fact that it is not being performed in its operating range.. Due to the fact that what would happen if there was a (not to be mean.. but) fat family that drove the car, the extra 400lbs would easily drop the car to those heights. and due to the extra weight, would INCREASE the stress on the shock rather than just changing the operating range.
I will say that changing spring lengths or dropping the car with a spring that is shorter when loaded (ie 1.5in drop, 2in drop) is NOT the proper way of lowering a car. The suspension points need to be raised, like for instance, on the front end (the easy side) the correct way would be to remove the factory welds that hold the hub assembly to the spindal (the thing that holds the shock) and raise it the desired lowering amount on each side. This keeps the suspension in proper geometry, as it was designed to be. And the rear.. well I havent seen the rear of an a4.. so I cant comment on that one...

I guess what im saying is, changing the springs and shocks are just a bandaid fix for lowering the car... Not saying that thats NOT the way I will be doing mine.. lol

bit of a long post.. and probably a bunch of spelling errors... sorry.
