Default Stalling and Inoperable Transmission

The weekend before last I flew to Seattle and helped a friend negotiate the purchase of a 2003 A4 1.8 automatic with 8000 miles on it from University Audi.

Tonight she called and said the she was driving two days ago and the car stalled and brought her to a stop. She was able to restart the car, but the transmission would not engage. She had it towed to the dealer who fixed the problem and advised her to come and pick up the vehicle. She said the service department claimed a "hose was not tightened correctly" and this caused the problem.

Has anyone experienced similar failure? If so, what was the diagnosis?

I plan to call the dealer service department tomorrow to get more details, but I wanted to see if anyone could give any insight tonight.

This was my friend's first Audi and she was really excited to get it. Now she's lost faith in the car, not knowing if it's going to strand her again. By the way, I drive a 2000 A6 2.8 and have never had any problems with it.

Thanks.

Default RE: Stalling and Inoperable Transmission

Sounds a bit shady to me - it may have been the typical patriarchal attitude that many mechanics give women drivers, though. I'd get the real scoop and go from there. Tell her not to be discouraged - you and I know Audi's are great cars.
