std susp. shock replacement
I searched and found a ton of posts on lowering and sport suspensions but my wife hasa 2004 1.8T with 70k and the standard suspension. The shocks are pretty much shot. I just want to replace the with something soft and inexpensive. This is her grocery getter/baby mobile so it's completely stock and doesn't get "driven" unless i take it somewhere and that's rare.
Any suggestions and will any tire place / midas / sears have shocks for this car? If it's easy i'll change them myself cause i'm a cheap bastard [8D]

Never in the history of working on audi's have i seen a shock go out on an audi before 300k miles on the clock. They just don't fail un-less they were hit or are leaking from an impact. If you do replace them you will need a spring compressor tool because they aren't shocks, they are struts. Don't try it yourself without the tool or the spring might un-load on you and very well kill you or cause permanent damage to your head or something. A shop like midas can do the work but i think its useless, if you don't see any fluid leaking from the strut the strut is fine.
thanks, the reason i think they're dying is the car is much bouncier than before. Just driving down the highway even my wife has commented on it. Are the struts audi uses that much better than other cars that have struts that last 60-100k?
In countries with less than perfect roads the shocks can go in as little as 60,000 kilometres!!!
The control arms and bushings wear out in as little as 40,000 kilometres.
No wonder my country's government officials run around in SUVs... they know where the money for maintenance is going...
