Steering pump--how long to replace?
Hey everyone,
I took my car to the dealer because the steering was making a whining noise when turning at low speeds and low temperatures.
It turns out the steering pump needs to be replaced. I have an extended warrenty on the car and the company will be paying for most of the expenses.
Here comes the problem...the dealer is saying it takes 4 hours to replace the pump while the warranty company says they will only pay for 2.6 hours of labor.
What do you guys think? Audi says 4 hours is the standard time. The warrenty thinks this is excessive. Any suggestions as to how I can get both parties to compromise. I am trying to avoid paying the $200 difference. Thanks!

Take it to a private garage that specializes in Audi/VWto see if they quote you less hours. Even so,you shouldn't pay for anyextended warranteeunless it is from Audi, or maybe AAA. But most of those companies that sell you an extended warrantee on yourcar without everseeing or inspecting your car are probably rip-offs. They figure that if they pay thefull amount that Audi quotedyou, then they won't be makingenough $ off you - and that is their game. Get them to payit up, that's what the warrantee company is there for.If you had a Honda, Toyota, or some othercar that was easy to fix, you would probably pay less forthat extended warrantee. Since youprobably pay more for the Audi warrantee, they should cover it. Work your way upthe management chain until they do agree to pay it all. Ifthey don't, then demand re-imbursement for all youpaid so far to thatwarrantee company.
