I'd go with some JL VR series, they are pretty cost effective... XR's are awesome, but are a bit more $.

Then get a bigger speaker amp... again, JL 300/4 would kick the ***. You can do all that with a stock head unit.
I don't want to get an amp for the speakers though. I just want to buy some new speakers and replace the stock ones runnin them from the stock HU (plug and play)

Now to hijack the thread a little bit...what is it with the people on these forums and JL Audio? It seems as if every thread I read about audio everyone's diagnosis is to "go buy JL such and such". I'm a car audio salesman and even I know that one brand will not fit every customer's needs.
Oh man, don't get started on the JL thing man, sorry but JL is one of the biggest bandwagon brands on the market, yes their products rock, but they aren't the only ones out there with great products. There's a discussion about this on Carsound.com conerning this same issue and it has gotten really heated, to the point where ppl are actually demonstrating the RIPS system has a flaw. Funny thing is that everyone recommends a W7, and it's even funnier when the same company states that another line is a better overall sub..

now back on subject, there's a post on here that has the pin outs diagram for our cars, there's 2 sets of wires L+/- R+/- you can put RCA end on them and used that for amps. And if you are concerned about how aftermarket HUs fit in our cars, try getting a custom install, should n't break anyone's bank. just make sure it's not a hack shop..

Hey Initialdtm, do you have any pictures of a A4 with a sparetire well enclosure with the hump in the center? I'm looking for some ideas to get around that...

i heard that the infinity reference series was a good speaker if you dont want to put an amp in your car, apparantly they dont need alot of power to sound good and they are on the less costly side of audio upgrade.

Is there any way to upgrade the speakers using the stock head unit?
there is no way to get good sound out of a stock head unit as it doesnt push enough power through your speakers. our audis actually have really good component speakers in them, so upgrading your head unit is a must.

you can make it look good too. my shop made me a custom front plate to make it look pretty much stock.

my 2 cents on brands:
I think Pioneer is a hell of a lot better than Alpine and that Rockford Fosgate is a lot better than Infinity.

I have the Infinity Kappa Perfect components. Personally I think they are much better than the comparative Rockford Fosgate series. However, the Infinity Reference series leaves a lot to be desired. It all comes down to personal sound tastes though.

People say buy JL because they hear the buzzword(name) everywhere. Some people actually love JL, but a lot of people have never even heard them and still suggest it. I would not buy JL at all. Way overpriced, and you can get stuff just as good for a lot less.
