Stero Question
Hi all,
Ive been reading this forum for a little while, but this is my first post.
Okay, can anyone give me information about putting a sub/amp into the stock bose system? Something like the one in my 97 2.8 quattro.
Ive been searching for a while, but cant find the info that i need. Can i splice into the rear 6.5's? If so, how does the remote on the amp
work? What is the quality? Would I lose the speaker? All I want to do is run one sub. Also, are there any adapters that I could use to go right in the back of the headunit? I would appreciate any more relavent info.
Thanx

I am not sure about audis, but you can always run an amp on a OEM head unit. I plan on doing the same, but there are two ways in doing do. Either 1> you got with a line level convertor takes your speaker output and changes them into line level for the Amp or 2> you can run your high level (speaker output) lines right into an amp that would accept those lines... The remote wire is easy just tap a fuse that would be on when the car is on, but not one that is on when the car is on too.. i.e. map lights stuff like that...
yes it will work u need to get alittle black box i for get i think its called an fm modrel and hook that to the amp and run a cord up to the fuse box to activate the amp and it will work fine. i have it done and the only think i notice is that the battery amp gauge jumps down every time the base hits.
What is this little black box, what does it do and where can i get one? Is it something special for the bose system?
Also, should I tap into a line off the back of the headunit, or should i just use one off one of the rear speakers? How hard is it to remove the headunit? Ive done about 5-6 different removals, but the audi screws and such are so well hidden that it makes me a little worried. Last, exactly what should i tap into in the fusebox to run the remote?
Thanx again...

Skidplate, did you have to use any kind of black box as mentioned before? I didnt think you would need to. Also, what kind of remote wire did you use. In other words, what tells the amp to turn on?
Thanks again
Thanks again
The little balck box I think you are referring to converts hi- level inputs to line inputs. Most amps have hi-level inputs so if you have the connector for hi-level you can use that. For the remote I ran a fused wire form under the dash that turns on with the ignition. I put a 5 amp fuse in and it's been fine ever since. If you take off your dash piece there is a few contact points under the dash use a test light to see which one turns on and off with the ignition. Hope this helps
