Still have the rear end clunk!
I have replaced the motor mounts, tranny mounts, Stern power ring, and Stern rear diff bushings and I still get the rearend clunk! I know the diff isn't moving at all. It does it on a takeoff from a stop. It sounds like the driveline starts to spin then the rear gears grab or something. I checked the fluid and it's full. It doesn't do it if I rev it a little and let the clutch out slow. Any ideas? Too much gear lash?
I know I sound like a newbie but where would I look and is it a bolt in deal or is there all kinds of measuring, dials, and crap? I have done chevy's and Fords, but no Audis.

unfortunately stasis is pricy... but it's a solid product.

Have you checked non suspension related things?
Checked under the rear seat for something rattling around?
The wiring to the rear CD deck can come loose and flap around.
Rarely internal baffles in the gas tank rust off and clunck as they float in the gas.

Yeah im betting something in the trunk would be rattling around.
Also a common clunk noise on take off is a loose sub-frame from someone performing a 4 wheel alignment. Make sure they are all torqued down.

Thanks, I'll get under the car today and check the subframe. I know it's nothing in the trunk, it's empty anyway. I can sit there and without even hitting the gas, just let the clutch out and push it back in and it clunks.
The subframe being loose wouldn't make any noise going over bumps, just when taking off and stoping cause it shifts the subframe back and forth.
If its banging when you lightly press the clutch pedal it might have something to do with the clutch,
like the throw out bearing, pilot bearing, the pressure plate might not be torqued down correctly or a few bolts broke holding down the pressure plate ect.
Start with the subframe.
If thats ok, try to gain access to a rack, turn off the traction control (if equipped) and drive it on the rack (going through gears) and have someone listen to it from underneath to isolate the bang.

Well I had it in the air the other day on jack stands and when on and off the gas I could hear something banging/rumbleing in the rear but I was by myself and couldn't stretch my neck that far. I plan on doing it again this weekend. It does it from a stop if I let the clutch out just a tad too fast so I have to let it outprettyslow for it to go smoothly..
I have checked all the cv's and suspension and everthing is tight as can be.
