Upgraded to FMIC 3"piping and car will notfire up, it turns but just no explosion. I checked for leaks and everything is in tact tightly. I replaced Cam sensor and took it back out and still with the other old one it still wont start and it was running OK before. someone mentioned a boost sensor or similar to that behind the head lights and i checked for connections and didnt find nothing disconnected, where exactly is that sensor and does it apply to 1999 1.8T?

 

No I don't believe yours has it, I think it was only on dbw cars. Have you tried scanning for codes?

 

Not yet, car is at moms and i dont have a scanner. can i buy any cheap scanner and would it tell me everything, i used to use a Snap- On scanner about 2years ago when i was an assistant at a shop and that thing told you everything. So there is no way its caused because of the size of piping or intercooler then right? (more air stored)

 

I dont think it has to do with the 3" piping, although that size will probably cause pressure drop with the stock turbo if im not mistaken. It should at least run though.

 

check all connectors are on - MAF - crank sensor - ground wires were you have been modding and anything you might have removed while modding

 

checked them all, even jacked up car and checked from bottom. Everything is good. Would it affect anything if i startedcar with nothing out of turbo and nothing in throttle body(other words no intercooler or piping) i know it was dumb but i had my car taken apart and needed to pull it up a bit but that didnt work at all.

 

difficult to say without looking my self, is the engine grounded and the battery chassis ground to the engine ok?? this would be my first check,

even though it cranks it wont start because of lost grounding ( no spark at the plugs ) same as if the crank sensor was unplugged

 

I will check the ground, as a matter of fact the old ground sucked, it was just mounted to fire wall which was rusted away and was about to just come off so i ripped it off and replaced it with 4 gauge wire going from negative of battery to strut mount bolts and 1 extra 8gauge going to the top by exhaust manifold. ill check that too make sure they didnt come loose.

 

I think something else is wrong man... it should fire up and idle with no intercooler tubes it wont run very well at all but it will at least start I know I did that to mine a few times......

 

yeah i figure something is not right. All i need isa freaking scanner but i cant borrow one anymore. i guess ill have to have car towed to my uncles old shop which is not good since i dont get the same deals anymore and wholesale price on parts
