Default strange noise

the strange noise started about a week ago.. It comes and goes and shows no patters, my car is a DBW and everytime im around someone that could rev up the car while im under the hood the car never makes it.. It sounds like a tapping, or a clicking its moderalty loud, you can start hearing it at about 2k rpm's if your driving its louder under load but at idle you cant really hear anything.. like I said it comes and goes very odd and makes the car sound like a peace.. any ideas

I would think if it was a rod it would make the noise all the time and have poor performance.. I have felt no change in the performance
