Subwoofer+Bose=impossible?
I recently talked with my local Soundtrack about having them install My 2 Alpine Type R 12" woofers in the trunk of my A4. The installer i spoke with told me that due to the automatic bass reduction with the bose system, it wouldnt work becasue at higher volumes it would reduce all the bass and render the subwoofers useless. Is this true or were they just full of BS becasue i already had the subs and amp and werent buying anything from them. If it is possible how would i do it? Or do i need to buy a new head unit? Thanks in advance

RE: Subwoofer+Bose=impossible?
it's very easy to do. you don't need an install shop to charge you 150 bucks to do something you could do for free. there are line level outputs in your trunk that you can tap into. all you need is a couple $.50 wire taps from osh and a few feet of speaker wire. the hard part is running a power line up to the engine bay, but it's really not all that difficult. you can get a really nice monster cable kit off ebay with everything you need except for the wire taps for ~35 bucks. search today's threads and you'll find a wiring diagram for the amp

does anyone know of where there is a write up on how to do this or have a link to the wiring diagram? I have installed this same setup in a Nova, A Jeep, and a civic, but all of them had aftermarket head units and i hear this Bose thing is really complicated.

It does work, I am running 2 10's im my a4 with a bose system. All i had to get was a $25 high to low converter and then wire the amp in. As far as i care it sounds good. If you go with an aftermarket head unit i think you have to do alot more work due to the amps on the bose speakers.
