Sudden Engine Shut down. 2000 Audi A4
Help. My engine suddenly just shut down twice last week. I was able to pull over and then restart, but it is scary since the power brakes etc also go off. I have had continual electrical problems with warning lights going off and on but this is the first engine problem. Brought it to dealer who could not find any error codes or anything wrong. I am very worried. Can anyone give me any advice???

Very strange. I'd check the connections at the battery, ground, ECU. Could also be the ignition switch.
What engine warning lights have you had go on? What car year engine and modifications do you have?
What kind of dealer did you take it to?
Take it to Autozone and ask them to check for codes which they will do for free.

2 things to check (from my own experience).
My first issue was that everything shut off while idling. Wasn't able to re-start before a few minutes. The problem was that the engine coolant was critically low and the engine shut itself off as a precaution. After a few minutes it would cool off a little so would start again.
My second time was an engine shut-off while driving and the battery/generator light coming on. Lost all power and had to pull off at side of freeway. Was able to restart like nothing had happened. In the same time I had strange noises when starting the car in the morning but it would last only 30-45 seconds.
I found that the vacuum pipe (left side of engine when standing facing the hood) was loose and almost falling off. Tightened and the noise was gone.
