Default Suggestions about 98' Audi with 90k miles

I am new to the forum and I already see the knowledge and friendliness that the members of this forum bring. I have a dilema, I want to purchase from my sister in law a 98 A4, with several things that need to be repaired, for example an axle boot, front disk brake rotors a valve noise when it starts cold, locked radio, and most important a huge oil leak. The car runs fine, good hp, acceleration is good, tires, front end, suspension is fine. Exterior is good, one or two small rust spots, in general decent shape. My main concern is the oil leak. I have a pretty good knowledge of repair and maintenance but can't seem to find the exact location of the leak. It looks like is leaking from different locations. I am going to take it to a mechanic for an evaluation. I don't know wether to buy it or not. I know Audi has a great reputation for making excellent vehicles but my sister in law never really took care of the car. What are your suggestions?[sm=gobble.gif]

90% of oil leaks coming from a 2.8 are the cam adjusters on the back of the head not a cheap job looking around $3000 parts and labour

Dont buy it.

You said she did not take care of it.

These cars need a lot of tlc.

The car you are looking at sounds like a money pit. You will have an endless stream of problems with it.

Buy an Audi by all means, but find one that has been well taken care of and has the service records to prove it. Then, if you take care of it, you will have a nice peice of mechanical harmony that will last you for many years to come.

I was afraid of that...Originally my in law, never took care of the leak earlier and now it has increased. I don't see any oil or anti-freeze mixed nor any loss of power, however I want to give this car to my daughter to go to college and I feel it will give a lot of torouble later on. Thanks for your quick reply!
