Sump screen - is it replaceable on my car?
I have a 99 a4 2.8 manual. It's not the 99.5. I have a blinking oil pressure light. Changed the sensor - no changes. Read up on some posts and saw that it's pobably a oil pump or sump screen. Sump screen replacement sound cheaper- so thats what I'd like to try and replace first. Is it something that can be done in the garage or should an experienced mechanic do it? Is it expensive? Can it be changed separately on this engine or does it get replaced with the whole pump? Can I check if it's clogged myself or do I have to take alot of things apart before I can get to it? Thanks for any input.
I think what they mean is the oil pick up is plugged up which probable means you have to replace the oil pump, but i dont know for sure, all it would require is getting to the oil pan and taking it off, that might require moving the subframe or something dont know for sure.... and then replacing either the pick up or the pump.... you can do it ifyou have some mechanical know how in less than a day
you can undo the engine mounts and jack the engine up to get the sump cover off if you cant get the cross member off, you still need to remove the oil pump to get at the bolts holding the oil strainer "oil pick up pipe"

What kind of wiring are you talking about? Also, the oil was black after I changed it 4 days after putting new oil in. So I guessed that's enough evidence that maybe something is getting clogged. Does anyone had instructions or a write up on cleaning out the sump screen? Do I just drop the lower oil pan and clear the screen by hand if it is clogged?
