RE: sunroof problems??can anyone help
before i got my audi, my friend owned it and he had the same problem except after a while the roof just stopped working (when it was open to make thing worse). he took it to audi and they wanted $100 just to look at it. then they wanted to replace the entire gear system at the tune of $700 just for the parts. he eventually took it to a private mechanic who closed it and it hasnt worked since. it was so messed up he had to take out the headliner to close it.
now i own the car and i tried to fix it. i thought maybe it was just the switch but that proved not to be true. the entire gear system is messed up.
however i believe its a common problem for the switch to fail. you should be able to pick one up from junk year for cheap and its not diffcult at all to replace. if its the gear system i would just close it and consider it a fixed moonroof (thats what i did).

I've been having problems with mine lately too. The **** seems to be unresponsive. The tilt seems to have a mind of its own. It never opens up by itself, but rather decides to close when it wants to. The slide tends to a be a little slow also. I've been to lazy to try and clean the contatct points as akielb referenced to and am sure that thiswould solve the problem. I've actually found better luck with telling people that it has a rain sensor until i get some free time to mess with it. I was told that this year had a recall on the sunroof, but have been unable to find any concrete info on the web. Anyone hear about the recall?
