suspension
I saw those grooved bilstein shocks, and i was wondering what the grooving was for, that sounds really good, but also i noticed that they said for fwd models only the front shocks are grooved because grooving the rears wouldnt do anything, and i dont call height adjustment nothing, so could i buy the shocks for the quattro model and be able to adjust all 4 corners? Also are the bilstein's rebuildable? Maybe my second question will help you a little bit chinky so that im not totally jacking your thread.
sorry but i only know quattros since that's what i have. see if ecstuning sells them for your model. if they sell them grooved, they would all have to be grooved i would think. otherwise you'd be riding all screwed up.
id go with spring shock combo, with technology 2day, there really isnt any difference between that and coilovers anymore.
the way i see it coilovers is for like hardcore race car for weekend only fun. however it seems that the market has molded that mentality into a streetable version, and loosing much adjustability to make it street legal.
its a minor difference in handeling between coilovers and shock/spring combo, but the difference isnt worth the difference of money u'll spend.
my thoughts....

fyi ... the grooved bilsteins we speak of are shocks ... that is, part of a shock/spring combo.
as i've said endlessly in these suspension threads, i totally agree with luvin-the-rings.
the other thing i have to say just because it doesn't seem that people realize is that sway bars are also a combo item (front and rear). go stiffer in the rear and the car will end up with massive oversteer. go too stiff up front and (like stock) the car will push badly (understeer). unless you want as harsh and annoying a ride as possible, great handling is about balance not necessarily lowest/stiffest. in fact (i forget who) someone made a really good point about how crappy really stiff cars handle in the rain. keep in mind that the stiffer you make the suspension the more you're counting on your tires to keep your @$$ on the road.
