Default Suspension Question

Ok...so I'm a total noob when it comes to suspension maybe someone could help me out here. If I wanna get 18's and lower my ride height, do I need springs AND shocks or will just springs work? I'm not sure if you can do one w/o the other. Also, are coilovers necessary or are they just a nice feature to have? I have them on my motorcycle which is nice but I don't really wanna drop a lot of $$$ on my suspension right now b/c I've got other things to save for (BT kit).

u can do springs but ur shocks will die soon, imo do coilovers if u want adjustability if not then just get a spring shock combo

get the shock spring combo, I did just the springs and 8 months later my shocks are shot. if you have non sport suspension and put 2" springs with 18 is will great, that's what I did, wheel and fender are even with each other.

A car with struts doesn't have an upper a-arm, or upper control arms/links like your a4. The strut replaces that part of the suspension.

bajamoon, what type of wheels did you get, what is the offset and size of the rims and tires , do your car rub on the wheels when you have a heavy load or over bumps?

I don't remeber what the offset was but they are hp racing evo's, 18x8, I did get some rubing but not from the wheels, I put H&R swaybers front and rear and the rubbing is gone. you can go to wheelsnext.com they have them. there is a picture of my car in another post, chip from giac for a 3.0. i'm at work so I can't put one up.
