Default SUSPENSION QUESTION

I SEE SOME AUDIANS ARE BUYING LOWERING SPRINGS AND THROWING EM ON THIER STOCK STRUTS. DOESN'T THAT GIVE EM A BOUNCY RIDE? WHAT KINDA SPRINGS/STRUTS I NEED TO BUY IF I WANT TO LOWER IT PLUS HAVE A SMOOTH RIDE W/OUT BOUNCING EVERYWHERE OR CAUSE RUBBING WITH 18" RIMS? I APPRECIATE ANY HELP

There is a coilovers group buy thread. You should look into that since you can get a $100 or more off.

The stock audi strut has a pretty good shock bound/re-bound rate which means you could lower it quite a lot and not suffer a lot of wheel bounce. Just don't lower it more than 2" which would look too low if you went lower than that anyway.

Default RE: SUSPENSION QUESTION

I have first hand experience here... my 2003 had 19" wheels and H&R lower springs put on the stock struts... when I purchased the car with 43K and took off the 19" wheels and put the stock 16s, the car was so bouncy it sucked...

I replaced the suspension with the KONI FSD and EIBACH Pro Kit Springs... far less bounce and my car doesn’t bottom out anymore.

I do still geta lot of body roll which bothers the heck out of me...

Question for everyone... should I get sway bars? Will this help eliminate most of the body roll? My thoughts are that with stiffer shocks/springs the stock sway bars may not be adequate for the ride height.

I really thought the KONI's would make the car drive like a dream and they are just OK. I say this after being in my friends 2001 S4 and the ride was smoother, it handled better, and almost no body roll.

I was under the impression the S4 just had upgraded shocks and springs and maybe sway bars?

Sorry for the hi-jack.

To answer your question how stiff the springs are is what mostly affects the body roll, the sway bars just help a little bit, but not that much.
I put KONI adjustable coil overs on my S4 from Stasis engineering which has the damping pre-set from Stasis so i have next to no body roll with the stock sway bars.
So what im saying if you can't adjust how stong your set up is sway bars are only gonna help a little bit with body roll but your still gonna have some depending on stiff the springs you currently have on the car are.

That answers my question.

Sways will help I guess but it comes down to... rebound rate... in conjunction with body weight.

Thank you very much.
