Since we are on the subject, how often do you guys change your oil? I'm running fully synthetic with the mobil1 oil filter thats about 2x bigger than the normal one.

 

if you run it hard then 6k same as semi ( a smaller oil filter gives speed feed to performance engines ) remember the filter is just a dump, standard oil every 3k including filter

 

Usually change mine around 4-5k with either Amsoil or Valvoline. An oversized filter is not necessarily better either. AC delco Amsoil and Mobil1 make some pretty good filters.

 

Are you guys changing the oil filter at 3k with synthetic? The oil filter is the mobil1 I think part number is like 301? Its whatever mobil1 said I needed, its just alot bigger than what was on it before I got it.

 

2500/3000 miles i know it's a little extreme, but i like when i open the oil cap and the oil is in good condition, and i like too see the faces of the servicemen at the dealer when they see how clean the oil is after 3000 miles, and plus your engine will live better/longer (so i've heard). On my M3 i change it every 2000/2500

is it bad to swtich from real oil to synthetic, say like the purple stuff. Ive wanted to do this but ive heard that you cant really switch from regular to synthetic

either i change my oil every 3k with the filter every other time, or every 5k with the filter every time...

 

pick the one you want to stay with and make the change.
