Default TCM Replacement DIY??

Is replacing the Transmission Control Mod a DIY project in a 2004 A4? Judging from some of the other postings sounds like it might be located in the floorboard on the passenger side. Any special tools needed or is it just a 'plug and play' type installation? Any suggestions on where to find the part or is the dealership the best bet?

its in the valve body of the back part of the tranny, so the case has to be split to get in there. not really DIY, but you might to give it a try cause the dealership will rape you hardcore on this one, and the tcm ain't cheap either. are you out of warranty?

Out of warranty by about 5k miles. What really steams me is that just prior to taking it in for the final service under warranty, the transmission seemed to stall one morning when I left for work. Pulled up to the edge of the street and when started to accelerate - nothing. Set for about 10 seconds and then jerked into gear and off I went. Mentioned to dealer during service call and they said "no faults - your good to go" Didn't really think a lot about it at the time, but as I was leaving the lady at the counter told me as I was leaving that I might consider an extended warranty - that I would put a transmission in the car at some point. I just thought she was trying to sell the extended warranty. From what I understand, she had already given her resignation to the dealership at the time she told me that, so I don;t think she would have benefited any from the sell.

Guess I will end up fighting with the dealership over the transmission. I have a hard time believing they didn't know what was up with my car.
