tech question: how to reprogram the ESP to be off when the car starts
Now that my car is upgraded, the car's ESP thinks that my car is slipping and engages the brakes under full boost. It is really annoying, so i would like to see if anyone knows if you can reprogam the computer or something so that the ESP is off when you turn the car on... but then the ESP light will be on, i would like to reprogam the dash light so that when i hit the ESP button above the stereo the ESP system will turn on and the light on the dash will light up saying that the system is armed.
i know, but i don't want to hit the button everytime i get in the car, that's why i want to reprogram the system to be off when i start the car, and i don't want to see the light on the dash when the system is off. I would like to make the button engage the ESP system instead
These instructions are for a 2003 GTI. I have no idea what they would be for an Audi, but it shows that it can be done for ABS. I don't know if ESP is handled similarly.
Disabling ASR/EDL with VAG-COM
1. Open the ABS Controller.
2. Make note of the soft code value (mine was 0021505 for ABS/ASR/EDL).
3. Select Recode.
4. Enter 0004097 (for ABS only).
5. Select Do it!.
6. 0004097 should now show in the soft code block.
7. Close controller.
If you ever want to go back, follow the same procedure, entering the original value (e.g., 0021505).
