terribly loud wipers
David, yes I have cleaned it well, ie soap and water and windex. However, I suspect it might still be due to ingrained dirt, like wax or something else that is still there, and am interested in recommendations for a product I could use to be sure that I have stripped dirt off back to bare glass.
gvm - this is not caused by dirt etc on your windscreen - your wiper arms are slightly bent causing the blades to 'hop' across the windscreen instead of 'wiping' it - i had a similar problem with my A4 where even when it was raining heavily the wipers were still 'hopping' across the windscreen this was solved by twisting the wiper arms a little

Get new wiper blades. I bought some Bosch Icon blades and I LOVE them. They're expensive ($25USD a piece) but man, best wipers I've ever put on a car. Mist or a downpour, they make no noise what so ever.
That having been said, maybe one of the wiper arms is bent slightly?

I found the noise is with the passenger side blade only. The noise is worse on a wet screen than a dry screen!. The driver-side blade (and carriage that holds it) is dead straight. The passenger side carriage is curved ... bent up towards the roof of the car at both ends. Before I start bending the wiper, can someone confirm that the passenger side carriage should be dead straight just like the driver side please? TIA .... Greg
