thermostat question
hey guys... 2000 b5
is there an easy way to tell if i need a new thermostat... i went to a local audi mechanic for him to look at my non-working wipers and he's telling me i need a new thermostat from squeezing a hose coming from the rad, he says its too stiff and its pretty hot when i raise the hood... any suggestions ???
cheers

RE: thermostat question
I would think there would be a problem code in the ECU if it was bad. Or, you'd overheat. Your temperature gauge should read top, dead center at all times once the car reaches normal operating temperature. If it doesn't fluctuate then I'd say the thermostat is working properly. You might want to search the forum for "thermostat" as you'll probably find other useful info.

RE: thermostat question
ya thats what i was thinking... the temp gauge is fine, the dude was some 65 year old tryin to swindle me out of my hard earn cash... i guess the great hunt for a good import mechanic i can trust is still on.... so heres what i gotta get done, my wipers don't work, and my front driver side bumper is loose, guessing the clips are broken, i can snap the bumper on, but it always pops out.... its really pissing me off

RE: thermostat question
The usual thing with the wipers is binding of the linkage.
first check the fuse box and see if the fuse is bad.
2. Get a Haynes or Bentley manual and check out the wiper motor and linkage.
actually, I think there was a thread on wipers a few days ago. Search the archives.
