Default And things were going so well...

So, I've had pretty good luck lately with faults on my car. Fixed my cam sensor, cleared my CEL, fixed my airbag light, and feeling pretty good about myself. Then out of the blue today, my hazard relay takes a sh*t on me in heavy traffic in the rain. It's the relay for sure - no problems with any bulbs, fuses are fine, yada yada yada. So does anyone who is within an hour or so striking distance of Binghamton NY happen to have a spare lying around? If so, please PM me with a price and location and I'd love to come and buy it ASAFP.

It'd suck to have to wait for it to be shipped, but if you can't find it locally, one of these might be the next best thing.

It happened this afternoon, maybe 3:30-4:00 or so. My phone died on me too, so I wasn't calling anyone lol. I'll swing by and check it out tomorrow, but from everything I've heard, I thought the relay was integral to the switch itself, not a separate relay somewhere. I'll dig through my Bentley manual tonight and see. If it's one of those parts, I'm there tomorrow. Thanks

ok i just checked my haynes manual and the relay is integrated into the hazard button. push the bottom of the button and put a screw driver on the top and pry it out. then pull the switch out with pliers and then take off the harness. have fun

Yeah I searched that out and found several informational posts. I know how to get the switch out no problem. What I have come across so far though, is that the relay is built into the switch assembly, instead of being a separate part somewhere else in the car, which would require replacement of the switch itself as a whole unit, in order to replace the relay. The manual should cover that though, and if it turns out that the relay is indeed separate and the switch is connected through a harness to it, then I'll be waiting outside AutoZone with my dash torn apart first thing tomorrow morning. Hopefully it's separate, but if not, it'll be time for a new switch assembly. Aren't you glad you have a post-facelift car? At least you know I won't jack yours from your car when you're sleeping lol

That's what I figured. I'm gonna hit Gary's if they're open tomorrow (if not, it'll have to be on Wednesday afternoon) and see if there are any B5 Passats down there. I'll take a gray one, tan one, whatever - I don't care - just so it's functional, and then buy one from someone on here or a vendor so it's proper. At least I'll have turn signals in the meantime.

Heheh, I don't know nuthin bout nuthin LOL, I'd never do that anyhow - I know I'd be ready to castrate the SOB that dared to take my car like that. Oh well, it's always an adventure, and at least it's another excuse to take the car apart.
