Ticking sound on start up*help*
Hi guys,
I'm new to this site and I tried the search engine already but to no avail so I was hoping you might help me. Here is my problem I just had an oil change done to my 2000 1.8tmy mechput in amsoil 40-w5 full synthetic about 3.5 quarts of it as well as a sealent. Since the change i've put on around 700 kms and just recently my engine has started to tick on start up. It sounds almost like a diesel engine for about 1-3 seconds and then it goes back to normal, I'm thinking the lifers may need to be adjusted or what else could this problem be? I'm kinda confused becasue it only seams to happen once sitting for a few hours or over night..........any suggestions guys?
Thanks, Justin

First, your engine will take at least 4 quarts of oil. More like 4.25-4.5. What do you mean by "sealant"? Oil additives shouldnt be used in any engine, or as a substitue for the requiredquantity of oil.. So if they put in 3.5 qts and then a half qt tomake the oil level correct, that isbad. It either thickens or thins your oil, often doing more damage than any good to any engine. Id have a new oil change done w/out additives and make sure the oil level is correct. Oil additives are gimicks unless it is a short term kind of thing like engine flush.

Thanks onepoint8tee I just checked my recipt and the shop put in brothers engine sealent because the said there was a small leak at the bottom of the engine, My question is the sealent that harmful or will it hurt to run with the same oil for a couple of thousand more km's or should i go get the engine flushed?

*update*
After adding oil and driving for a bit I shut the car down for an hour and go start it up. I'd say the sound is more like a loud rattle for about 1-2 seconds then it turns into the sound of a purring 1.8T. When driving I acclerate and there is no lifter noise or anything just a smooth engine.....I'm thinking of taking it to the stealership but i'd like to save money if anyone else here has any ideas
Thanks, JC
