How do I know that I need new brake pads? I've noticed much more dust on the rear wheels than front since i cleaned them. Are the fronts done?

 

that's the way they are, rear puts out more brake dust than the front, why i don't know, they will start to squel alot when they are going out, i got 55,000 miles out of mine and i drive like an a$$hole.

 

My car produces much more dust on the fronts than the rear. This is the way it should be since the front brakes always produce more braking power than the rears.

Brakes do last a pretty long time and they should squeel more and more the worse they get.

The easiest thing to do is just go look at them. You can look through the rim and see the brake pad. If you still have 1/2" of pad left, you are fine. If you are down to about 1/8" of pad left, you will be replacing them soon.
