Timing Belt @ 98K
I just wanted to go on record that I just did the first timing belt change on my 2000 Audi A4 @ 98K + miles.
I bought the car used and was not sure if the belt had been changed. I was finally able to contact the owner and he never changed it.
A friend and I worked on it ALL DAY this Saturday. I have driven 200 miles since and so far no problems.
I am not sure how many have gone so many miles on the original belt and tensioner, but after seeing all the warnings I made it my first priority.
The old belt looked almost brand new. If the previous owner hadn't told me himself, I would have never been able to tell.
I used the write up on Audi World as a guide. I also replaced the tensioner, rollers, waterpump, etc..

why did you change the water pump on 2000 and down they are external unless it was leaking you do not need to change it

Regarding the change of the waterpump. It made perfect sense todo while down there. It was not leaking, but I was trying to be pro active.
It took all day because it was my first time doing the job and we took our time.... breakfast, beer, lunch, beer, dinner, beer.
