Default timing belt broke! HELP ME

first off, the car is a 2000 1.8tq with 114k.

i had my tie rod ends done at my local shop and when i picked it up they told me that i should get my timing belt replaced because audi reccomends to change it at 105k. i checked the maintenece schedule that came with the manual/car and it says to change it at 120k for the 1.8 5v motor and 104k for the 2.8.
my question is, would audi be responsible for the damages because it broke 6k miles before it says to be replaced? everyone i have talked to says 105k but the manual says 120k and if you cant trust the maual to be correct then how would one know when to replace it. The worst part about this is that i had an appointment to get it replaced on monday august 14 at 8am and it broke on aug 13 at 1030 pm, the damn day before it was supposed to be fixed!

any help, info or past expieriences would be most appreciated. thanks guys.

Sorry to say but your SOL... Audi will not take responsability.

I plan to replace mine at 50k just in case. I've read chipped TT's had belts go well before 100k

Well since you have a 2000 with the updated tensioner, you wouldnt fall into the category of the 97-99's that had the older style tensioner that is so notorious for failing. Because it broke before it was "due" to be replaced, all you can do is see what they say. Some people have had luck and Audi replaced the whole engine. Some people have not. Good luck. Sorry to hear about this! For future reference, always change the timing belt at 70k mile intrevals no matter what your service schedule says. Better safe than sorry with a part that aids in the death of your engine when it breaks.
