Default Timing Belt Broke on the Highway

Well, my timing belt broke on the highway while I was going 75 - 85 mph, so I assume the rpms were ~3500. What sort of damage would this do the the valves, pistons, etc?

Car: 1999 Audi A4 1.8T Quattro

Is the car an auto or manual? With an auto, there is no load on the engine when the belt snaps. But most likely the valves have been bent. Pistons should be ok, but you can see this when the head comes of to rebuild the valves. Now is the time to put on the new water pump and all the other goodies from the timing belt kit. How many miles on the car?

THE DEALER!!! What did they charge? 1300? 1500?? 2000??????

Find out what exactly they did.. they most likely through in (".. uhh it seems your flux capacitor is not producing the milAmperWatts needed to crank over the engine... we are going to have to replace that... $600.00")

Just get an itemized receipt and make sure that they replaced everything that needed to be.

This was before I bought the car from him... so he paid the bill, and I don't know how much it was. It might have all been under warranty, though.

I have a 01 and my timing belt went under the same conditions. I have auto with 1.8 and I ended up buy an entire new engine. I had to buy a new engine mainly because my pistons were damaged. If yiou end up needing an engine, I would check with Shokan in New York.

Ive seen the itemized quote from the dealer for my car (girl who I bought it from towed it to the dealer first) and with water pump, TB, TB tensioner, thermostat and all other belts + rebuilt head 058 103 265 BX for AEB would have been $4900
