TIMING BELT HELP!!!!
118,000 plus some change when tensioner broke. I believe 105k is the interval. The thing that irks me about this is that I didn't know that there was a tensioner problem. I purchased the car with 94k on it. The dealer and his mechanic I bought it from showed me that they changed the belt (but obviously not the tensioner). So I thought all along that I was fine. Furthermore, I took the car to the stealer for a tie rod recall and they put on the computer receipt that the timing belt needs replacing. When I saw that I askedthem what they are talking about. It had just been replaced about 4k ago. They mentioned nothing about the tensioner issue...... said that the recommended interval was approaching and that is why they put it on the receipt. Go figure-total miscommunication on their part. I've been in the front end of this car numerous times, I could have done the work if I knew.
I believe that AUDI knew not to put "tensioner" on the receipt because that is not a normal maintenance item and could pose a liability for them. That's what it all boils down to.
I might give Audi NA a call. Might give NTSB? a call or letter because I don't care what anyone says it is a safety hazard when you lose power steering and power braking suddenly.
OK you got me going now.

THANKS to everyone for the feedback they provided.

How difficult was it to take off and then re-install the head?
