Its like a hundred bucks cheaper to do the chip on the AEB, at least on APR's site.

This is going to be the first time I'm doing a timing belt. The guide on http://www.audiworld.com/tech/eng35.shtmlwas very helpfull in the decision.

Some shops will give discounts if you buy parts from them and they do labor.

I know a tbelt kit from ecstuning is around 200bucks. When i called a AUDI performance shop here in chicago they qouted me for $400.00 assuming their is no setbacks.

I have an 2000 A4 1.8T andI justpassed 100 thousand miles. The stock belts are still on. ShouldI replace all belts or which ones? Also how much is a good price for a timing belt? I heard there expensive too change. Thanks

If you do it yourself it's about $300 with all the part's you need. ecstuning.com is a good place to get the kit. I boughta gall. ofG12 from my local VW dealer for about $17.
not all that easy to DIY, plus if you succeed you have $100 camshaft holding tools lying around, best to find a local guy and get it done for 600-700. the whole list of thing to replace should be the serpentine belt, t-belt, thermostat, water pump, tensioners. deealer will rob you though. so local shop is the best, it seems expensive but rebuilding an engine is worse.

Why would you need a $100 cam holding tool its a single gear that should not move. It is time consuming but as long as you take your time and follow the directions its not hard.
