Ticking isnt normaly timing belt related unless the tensioner has already broke, which in most cases results in immediate engine failure... Your ticking may be something else like the cam chain or lack of oil/sticky lifters etc.

cam chain? would it be as simple as replacing it? the ticking is loud and there as been a noticible power loss i was told it usually was the tensioner

Cam chain is not simple. I would stop driving until you are able to break everything open and do the timing belt and see whats up. I do know of one member- aceturbo that he started to get loud ticking and did his timing belt shortly after and his tensioner was broken and belt had skipped a tooth or more. But like i said, in most cases if the tensioner breaks you are immediately fucked. Do it asap!!! I personaly wouldnt drive it anymore.
